Angry slum-dwellers took the law in their own hands in Haldipada of Baleswar district in Orissa by attacking the police officials who had gone to rescue a youth from the wrath of the residents. The married youth is suspected to have an alleged affair with a slum girl who got pregnant. When the girl’s parents went to police station, the cops had allegedly refused to register FIR. The residents of the slum then detained and beat the youth. When the police arrived for rescue, the Inspector In-charge and a Sub Inspector were mercilessly beaten.
